Compared to the considerable number of works by African writers set
in former colonizing countries such as Britain, fiction addressing the
African presence in Germany has remained rare. In the past fifty
years, literature by both Anglophone African writers and British authors
of African descent has gained much prominence so that'Black British
writing' has become a label that can now be spotted even on the shelves
of bookstore chains. These days, the works of quite a few Black British
writers are taught and read as part of the Anglophone literary canon.
In Germany, the situation differs insofar as the short-lived and eventually
unsuccessful colonial endeavours
