The Centre-Periphery project offers a couple of categories - Centre and
Periphery - to describe some social phenomena through multidisciplinary approach.
It is large enough to allow a multidisciplinary community of researchers, from
linguistics, sociology, history, politic sciences, law, economics, and so on, to work
together through their common use of Centre and Periphery categories. Whatever
definition they begin with, researchers in using those categories to examine the
social phenomenon specific to their discipline, select some features from the centreperiphery
categories and attribute them to their object of analysis. Reflexively they
accomplish the same process in the reverse direction: they select some features of
their object of analysis and attribute it to the Centre or Periphery category so that the
object appears to be a good token of that category.
