"City Poems depicts such aching urban loneliness. Is it possible our cities are filled with residents who look so much like exiles and refugees ? At first you notice the hard sorrowful pavements. Then you read closer. Little moments of beauty, brave smiling humor, wind, snow, and fog. How tough. How vulnerable. Mbarek Sryfi has written a lovely & necessary book."
Andrew Schelling, poet and translator, author of Tracks Along the Left Coast : Jaime de Angulo & Pacific Coast Culture.
Mbarek Sryfi is currently teaching Arabic at the University of Pennsylvania where he received his PhD in Arabic literature and Islamic studies. These days, Sryfi spends much of his time translating prose and poetry from Arabic and French and composing and revising his own original poems in English.
