Eric Turcat is a professor of French at Oklahoma State University where his new, interdisciplinary course on "Global Subterranean Communities" directly inspired the material in these Notes for the Underground. He is also a co-founding member of the Journées internationales du dictionnaire, a biannual conference of meta-lexicographers whose research theme for 2026 is none other than "Sustainable Development." Initially specializing in Classical French literature (La Rochefoucauld, La Fontaine, Molière and Voltaire), he has become more of a comparatist over the years, as evidenced by his most recent Paris olympiques (L'Harmattan, 2025).
