In 1973, Gilbert Leroy discovered Nepal and decided to stay a year there in "the land of Sherpas" and work on his first film. He is also amongst the first foreigners to reach Ladakh & Zanskar, which was till then closed off to outsiders. This will take him, in 1980 from Zanksar to the borders of Tibet. In discovering Tibetan culture convinces him the necessity of coming to the
help of Tibetan people. This will result in his commitment with the association "Aide à l'enfance tibétaine".
